UNIS Returns With Its First Summer Song: "GimmeSummer☆" MV Shot Entirely in Okinawa

UNIS unveiled the music video for "GimmeSummer☆" (stylized in Japan as "ギミサマ☆") on July 17, the title track off the eight-member group's first Japanese mini album, UNI☆Sparkle!, arriving July 31. According to F&F Entertainment's official release, the video was shot against Okinawa's blue coastline and city streets, pairing the island scenery with the members' energy to lock in a breezy summer mood.

A School-Trip Concept, Told Through Camcorder Footage

The music video follows UNIS, Jin Hyeonju, Nana, Gehlee Dangca, Kotoko, Bang Yunha, Elisia, Oh Yoona, and Lim Seowon on what plays out like a class trip, complete with beach scenes and fireworks. F&F Entertainment described the clip as leaning into a camcorder-style visual effect throughout, giving the video an analog, home-video feel layered over the group's youthful energy.

OTOTOY's coverage of the release adds member commentary on the shoot. Member Nana said the video was built around a school-trip concept and pointed to "the beautiful Okinawan sea and UNIS enjoying the trip like classmates" as the video's standout moment. Kotoko, meanwhile, called it the group's first overseas music video shoot and said filming in Okinawa genuinely felt like being on a school trip, singling out a scene where the members jumped together while watching the sunset as one of her most memorable moments.

The Choreography and the Album

Per F&F Entertainment, the "GimmeSummer☆" performance was also revealed for the first time, choreographed by Sako Makita, the choreographer behind viral challenge dances like "Is It Not Okay to Just Be Cute?" and "Too Much Like Melt." The agency describes the choreography as amplifying UNIS's bright, playful side.

UNI☆Sparkle! pulls from a Y2K-flavored take on Japanese pop culture across its five tracks: "GimmeSummer☆," new song "BBYBBY," first Japanese digital single "MoshiMoshi♡," second digital single "mwah…," and a Japanese-language version of "SWICY." OTOTOY notes the title track itself was written and composed by Kanata Okajima and Carlos K., framing "GimmeSummer☆" as UNIS's first true summer song, built around the fleeting excitement and ache of young love and friendship.

What's Next

UNI☆Sparkle! officially drops July 31, with "GimmeSummer☆" now streaming ahead of the complete five-track release.
